Recycling

Recyclable packaging becomes possible when mono-material structures, the right design and waste collection systems work together.

What Is Recyclable Packaging?

Recycling means sorting and collecting waste by type and turning it back into raw material through physical or chemical processes. Whether a pack can truly be recycled depends not only on its material but also on the collection and sorting infrastructure in the country where it ends up.

The European Union’s packaging waste directive (2018/852) sets recycling targets for plastic packaging of 50 per cent by 2025 and 55 per cent by 2030. These targets directly affect packaging decisions, especially for exporting brands.

It Starts at the Design Stage

Multi-layer structures made of different plastics are difficult to separate. That is why mono-material structures such as PE/PE stand out for recyclability. Choosing the right film means striking a balance between the protection the product needs and the recycling goal.

At F-Pack, we assess each brand’s product needs and plan together structures that meet protection expectations and are better suited to recycling streams.

Advantages of Recyclable Packaging

Suitable for food, pet food, personal care, household cleaning, textile and agricultural products, these structures offer the following benefits:

  • They reduce the amount of waste and the need for landfill.
  • They help return raw materials to the economy.
  • They save energy compared with producing virgin raw material.
  • They reduce the consumption of natural resources.
  • With the right barrier structure, they continue to protect the product from external factors.
